These pastels are far lower in contrast than the primary version, so on blonde and light brown hair they read as an iridescent sheen and only resolve into separate colors close up. On dark hair they show as pale glints along the length. Placement concentrates around the part and the top layer, since anything buried underneath never sees light. The effect is strongest in direct sun or under stage lighting and nearly invisible in a dim room.

  • Undertonecool, neutral. The pink-through-blue pastel range sits in the cool half of the spectrum, so it agrees with cool and neutral skin and turns icy beside strongly golden complexions.
  • Starting pointNo lifting is needed, since these are attached strands rather than dye, though the pastels register far more on hair that is already light blonde than on black.
  • UpkeepExpect a month or two before they work loose, and remember heat tools shrivel the filament, so air dry or keep the iron away from those sections.

Try it before the bleach

Color is the expensive mistake to get wrong. Put Fairy Tinsel against your own skin tone first.
