Burgundy sits at the dark end of red, nearer plum than fire, and that depth is what lets it live under a black canopy without shouting. Indoors the section under the crown mostly reads as very dark hair with a red edge to it. Outdoors, sun catches the underside and the whole panel turns wine. The violet in it rinses out ahead of the red, so expect a drift toward brick across a few weeks.

  • Undertonecool, neutral. Blue in the red keeps it from clashing with cool and neutral skin, and it holds its depth on deeper complexions where a brighter red would jump forward.
  • Starting pointDark hair needs lifting to a mid orange-brown, around level six, or the wine tone gets swallowed by the base and reads as plain black.
  • UpkeepWork a red-depositing conditioner in on alternate washes and rinse cool, because burgundy bleeds noticeably in the shower for the first couple of weeks.

Try it before the bleach

Color is the expensive mistake to get wrong. Put Burgundy Peekaboo against your own skin tone first.
