The pattern is the identifying feature: one braid straight down the middle of the head, cornrows angled back on either side, and free-hanging braids from the rest. Beads are threaded onto selected ends and clamped or tied so they cannot slide, and they add real weight, which you notice when you turn your head. The style comes out of Fulani tradition in West Africa, and that center line is what makes it read as Fulani rather than plain cornrows.

  • Suitsoval, round, square face shapes. A center braid draws a strong vertical line down the middle, lengthening a round face and pulling width away from a square jaw.
  • Hair typemedium density, thick, curly, coily. The cornrowed sections need texture to stay flat on the scalp, and the beaded ends want enough braid length to carry the weight.
  • UpkeepFour to six weeks, with the beaded ends re-secured as they work loose and a scarf at night to stop the beads catching.
  • Ask forAsk for Fulani braids with a center cornrow and angled side rows, and put beads on the front braids only if you want it lighter.

Does it suit your face?

A photo of Fulani Braids on someone else cannot answer that. Render it on your own face and you will know in a few seconds.
