The grid of parts is the whole point: clean squares read on the scalp when the hair is pulled back, and the size of each square sets how thick the braid comes out. Extensions attach with a small knot at the base, which grips well and stops the braid sliding, though it sits slightly raised. Installed length usually falls between the collarbone and the waist, and the ends can be curled in hot water.

  • Suitsoval, round, square face shapes. The straight downward fall lengthens a round or square face, and a middle part splits the width away from the cheeks.
  • Hair typemedium density, thick, curly, coily. The base knot needs a few inches of natural hair with enough texture to hold it, which rules out very short or slippery fine hair.
  • UpkeepSix to eight weeks is realistic, with a satin bonnet nightly and diluted shampoo worked on the scalp rather than scrubbed through the length.
  • Ask forAsk for box braids on half-inch square parts and specify the finished length, for example just past the collarbone.

Does it suit your face?

A photo of Box Braids on someone else cannot answer that. Render it on your own face and you will know in a few seconds.
