How to tell

Face length is roughly one and a half times your cheekbone width. The forehead is marginally wider than the jaw, and the jawline is gently rounded with no hard corners. If your four measurements come out close to that and nothing dominates, you are oval.

What actually works, and why

With face shape neutralised, the real decision factors are hair texture and density, your hairline, your forehead height, your neck length, whether you wear glasses, and how many minutes you will genuinely spend on it each morning. Fine straight hair cannot hold the same blunt weight line that coarse hair can. A cowlick at the hairline will fight a full fringe forever. A short cut on a long neck reads very differently than the same cut on a short one. Pick on those, not on the shape.

What tends to fight it

Two things can actually go wrong. Very heavy full bangs cut the visible face short and push an oval toward a rounder read. Very long one length hair with no layers drags the shape downward into an oblong read. Both are recoverable and neither is a rule, but they are the two places an oval face can be worked against.
