Haircuts for a round face

Width and length are close to equal, and the angles are soft. The cuts that work add vertical line and take bulk away from the widest point, which sits at your cheeks.

How to tell

Measure your face length and your cheekbone width. On a round face the two numbers are close, usually within about ten percent of each other. The jaw is soft and curved rather than angular, the hairline is rounded, and the widest point of your face is across the cheeks rather than the forehead or the jaw.

What actually works, and why

You are doing two things at once: adding vertical line, and removing horizontal bulk at the cheekbones. Long layers that start below the chin do both, because the eye follows the layer down rather than across. A side part creates a diagonal, which reads as length. Height at the crown adds real vertical distance. Length past the collarbone lets the whole shape stretch. None of this is about hiding a round face, it is about where the eye enters the shape and which direction it travels.

What tends to fight it

Blunt one length cuts that end at the chin put a horizontal line exactly at the widest part of your face, which is the one place you do not want a hard edge. Heavy straight across bangs shorten the visible face and push the read rounder. Center parts with flat roots frame the face symmetrically and remove the diagonal that was doing the work. These are tendencies, not rules, and plenty of people wear all three well. Test them rather than trusting the chart.

See it on your own face first

Every style in this catalog renders onto a photo of you, so you are judging your own face shape and coloring rather than a model's.
