Purple carries more depth than most vivids, so layers and ends stay visible instead of flattening into one block of color. Direct sun pulls the blue forward until the ends look almost indigo, while indoor light lets the red side surface. As it washes out the violet separates rather than simply lightening, leaving a mauve cast on the mids while the ends hold blue for longer.
