The hair is braided first, as a single three-strand braid or as two, and only then wound into a spiral. The braid gives the bun visible ridges instead of the smooth dome a wrapped ponytail makes, and those ridges make the shape read considerably larger than the amount of hair actually in it. Pins go through the outer edge of the coil into the base underneath. Loosening each braid before coiling adds another size up.

  • Suitsoval, round, oblong face shapes. The coil sits behind the head rather than on top of it, so it adds depth in profile without stacking height on a long face, while the sides are taken in off the cheek.
  • Hair typemedium density, thick, straight, wavy. Braiding needs length past the shoulder and hair with some friction to it, so freshly conditioned slippery hair wants a texture spray before you start.
  • UpkeepTrim about every eleventh week so the braid tapers evenly to the tail, and allow around ten minutes to braid, coil and pin the whole thing.
  • Ask forAsk for minimal layering through the mid-lengths so the braid stays even in thickness rather than thinning out halfway down.

Does it suit your face?

A photo of Braided Bun on someone else cannot answer that. Render it on your own face and you will know in a few seconds.
