One hand twists the length toward the head until it folds against itself, then the clip bites into that twist roughly level with the occipital bone. What sits above the clip is never tucked away: the ends flick out over the top of the head and supply most of the shape's height. Thick hair wants a large clip with real teeth, and the twist should be tightened once more after clipping, because it always drops a little.
- Suitsoval, round, square face shapes. Lifting the length clear of the neck stretches the visible outline of a round face, while the height above the clip means the jaw is no longer the broadest thing in profile.
- Hair typemedium density, thick, straight, wavy. There has to be enough bulk for the clip's teeth to close on something, so fine hair does better with a smaller clip over a lightly backcombed crown.
- UpkeepNothing beyond a regular ten to twelve week trim, and the twist itself takes under a minute once the direction becomes muscle memory.
- Ask forAsk for shoulder length or longer with layers kept below the ear, since short crown layers slide straight back out of the twist.
