Layers go in curl by curl on dry hair so nothing collapses once it shrinks, which is the difference between a shag and a triangle. The shortest lengths sit through the crown to lift the root, and the perimeter is left uneven so the ends do not stack into a solid bottom edge. Diffusing upside down is most of the styling. Growth mostly shows as the crown dropping.

  • Suitsoval, square, heart face shapes. The curl mass rides above the cheekbone while the ends drop past the jaw, which rounds off a square corner and puts width below a narrow chin.
  • Hair typecurly, coily, thick, medium density. An actual curl pattern is needed to define the layers, and a tighter coil shrinks more, so the cut has to be planned at dry length.
  • UpkeepDry cut every three to four months, with gel or cream on soaking wet hair and a diffuser on low most wash days.
  • Ask forAsk for a dry curly cut shaped as a shag, curl by curl, with the shortest layers at the crown and an uneven perimeter.

Does it suit your face?

A photo of Curly Shag on someone else cannot answer that. Render it on your own face and you will know in a few seconds.
