Because curl shrinks, the framing has to be cut long and cut dry so it lands where you want once it springs up. Those front spirals sit forward of the ear and pull away from the cheek, while the back keeps its length and its weight. Curl cream and a diffuser handle most of it, though the framing usually needs a finger coil or a small rod to sit right. It loosens over time rather than losing shape.

  • Suitsoblong, oval, heart face shapes. Curl volume sits out at the sides and the framing spirals fall past the jaw, adding width to a long face and weight beside a narrow chin.
  • Hair typecurly, wavy, thick, medium density. A defined S or spiral pattern is needed for the framing to hold its own shape, and loose waves may need a rod to match the front to the back.
  • UpkeepDry cut every three to four months, wash days built around leave-in and a diffuser, and a curl refresher spray between washes.
  • Ask forAsk for a curly butterfly cut shaped dry, with the framing curls set forward of the ear and the back left long and heavy.
