A razor removes weight along the length of the strand rather than cutting it off square, which is why the ends finish thin and separate instead of blunt. Layers are deliberately uneven, with some pieces at the crown left long enough to fall across the shorter work around them. Styling means a matte clay pressed through dry hair by hand, pushing sections in different directions. On very dry or fine hair, razoring can leave the ends frayed and fluffy.
- Suitsoval, round, square face shapes. Spiking upward adds the height a round face is short of, and the ragged, uneven perimeter keeps any hard horizontal away from a square jaw.
- Hair typemedium density, thick, straight, wavy. It needs body to stand up and enough coarseness to survive the razor, so the spikes hold on medium to thick hair where fine hair just goes wispy.
- UpkeepEvery four weeks or it loses the shape entirely, and every day it needs clay worked through with the fingers to rebuild the separation.
