Cherry is the loud end of red: high saturation, cool rather than tomato, and it never settles into anything that could pass for natural auburn. It bleeds more than most shades in the first few washes, so light towels and pillowcases are at risk until it stabilizes. The fade runs down through raspberry and then coral pink, and plenty of people like the later stages as much as the first week.
