Royal blue uses one of the densest pigments in direct dye, and that cuts both ways: it takes on a less-lifted base than any pastel needs, and it lingers long after you want it gone. The panel reads black in shadow and turns strong ink blue in daylight. As it fades it goes teal, because a thinning blue stops hiding the yellow left in the lifted panel underneath.

  • Undertonecool. A pure cold blue with no violet in it: it reads crisp beside cool skin and throws its hardest contrast on deeper complexions.
  • Starting pointLevel seven or eight is enough for royal blue to read true, so the panel needs bleaching but not the full lift a pastel demands.
  • UpkeepSix to eight weeks between top-ups, longer than most vivids, but plan for the teal phase and for blue marking light towels and pillowcases early on.

Try it before the bleach

Color is the expensive mistake to get wrong. Put Royal Blue Peekaboo against your own skin tone first.
