The purple inside indigo is what separates it from a straight blue: it keeps the ends looking rich rather than flat, and it is why the fade heads toward slate gray-violet instead of turning teal. At this depth the color is almost lost in dim rooms and only declares itself under strong daylight or flash. It also sits close enough to the dark base swatch that the transition line stays soft.
