Weight is the real consideration: mature locs are heavy, and pulling them all to a single high point puts genuine load on the roots along the front hairline. A wide fabric tie spread across the gather, or a spare loc wrapped around the base, distributes that far better than one thin elastic. The tail reads as distinct cylinders that move independently, so the shape holds even as the head turns.

  • Suitsround, oval, square face shapes. The locs hang behind the head as separate cylinders, so from the front the outline changes only at the crown, where the gather adds the height a round or square face wants.
  • Hair typemedium density, thick, curly, coily. Locs form out of coily and tightly curled textures, and the tail needs enough of them at medium or thick density to hold a full, even shape.
  • UpkeepRetwist the roots on your usual six to eight week cycle, and alternate high sets with lower ones so the front edges are not carrying the weight every day.

A photo of Loc High Ponytail on someone else cannot answer that. Render it on your own face and you will know in a few seconds.
