Because box braids already carry added length and weight, the gather has to be set with the head level rather than tipped back, or the finished tail sits further forward than intended. Taking everything up leaves the whole parting grid on show, so clean boxes matter more here than they do worn down. A scarf or a single wrapped braid covers the tie. Take it down at night so the perimeter braids are not loaded for days on end.
- Suitsoval, round, square face shapes. Every braid goes up, so the parting grid and the bare hairline draw the top of the face and the crown gather is what stretches a round or square outline upward.
- Hair typemedium density, thick, curly, coily. The braids are installed on coily or tightly curled hair, and each box needs enough density to anchor it without scalp showing through when the hair is pulled up.
- UpkeepThe braids themselves last six to eight weeks, and the high set should come down nightly so the front boxes are not under constant tension.
- Ask forAsk for the full head of box braids gathered at the crown, base wrapped in a single braid, and the front sections set with light tension.
