The wave pattern here is deliberately uneven: some sections hold a full S-bend, others barely more than a kink, which is what keeps it from reading as a set curl. Roots stay flat for the first few inches, so the volume sits low, around the jaw and collarbone. A salt or texture spray gives the grit the shape depends on. Slept on, it loosens into something softer but still wearable.
- Suitsoval, square, heart, oblong face shapes. The wave breaks up straight vertical lines and puts soft width at the jaw, which balances a wide forehead and takes the corner off a square jawline.
- Hair typefine, medium density, straight, wavy. Straight or lightly wavy medium hair takes the bend most easily, fine hair holds it if the cut avoids heavy internal layering, and very thick hair drops the wave under its own weight.
- UpkeepTrim the perimeter every ten to twelve weeks so the ends do not split, and expect a texture spray plus a few loose barrel-iron passes, or a night in braids, most days.
- Ask forAsk for a collarbone-length cut with soft invisible layers through the mid-lengths and point-cut ends, then say you want an undone wave rather than a set curl.
